Andersonville is a neighborhood situated in the greater Edgewater community area. Its motto is "A quaint village in the heart of a world class city." Originally settled by Swedish immigrants, Andersonville is the home of the Swedish American Heritage Museum ( 5211 N. Clark Street), the Swedish Bakery ( 5348 N. Clark Street) and local Ann Sather ( 5207 N. Clark Street) and several other Swedish delicatessens. In addition, in the summer time, Andersonville presents its annual Midsommar Fest, which is a celebration of Swedish food and culture.
The main thoroughfare in Andersonville is Clark Street between Foster and Bryn Mawr Avenues. This stretch of Clark Street is known throughout the city for its eclectic mix of specialty shops, cafes, and ethnic restaurants.
Andersonville contains some prime real estate in the form of large turn-of-the-century homes located on shady tree-lined streets. A stroll along the east-west streets that jut off of Clark Street will reveal real estate treasures around every corner.
Andersonville is easily accessible by both of Chicago's major north side highways and by public transportation. El stations are on Berwyn and Bryn Mawr avenues. The #22 Clark, #92 Foster, and #36 Broadway CTA buses run through Andersonville, and the Ravenswood Metra station makes easy commuting to either downtown or the suburbs.
