Hyde Park was built as a suburb of Chicago and it became a Chicago neighborhood later on. One of its most famous residents is Muhammad Ali.
Hyde Park is also home to the University of Chicago, one of the top business schools in the country. The Museum of Science and Industry is also a great attraction for Chicago visitors. Coffee houses bookstores, restaurants, shopping and live theater are part of the social life here. The Promontory Point on Lake Michigan is a favorite spot for swimmers, dog-owners, and picnickers.
The neighborhood suffered economic ups and downs in the 50s. However, today it is considered a secure and stable neighborhood, with a boom in real estate. Housing ranges from handsome brick Georgian mansions, vintage condominiums to full amenity high-rises and new construction townhomes.
