Lakeview is one of Chicago’s oldest neighborhoods, blending a wide variety of urban lifestyles. About four miles north of the Loop, Lakeview is named after its proximity to the Lake Michigan. In 1865, Lakeview was officially made a town by an act of the Illinois General Assembly.

Today, Lakeview is divided into two areas: East Lakeview and West Lakeview. One of the most exciting and flamboyant events in Chicago, the annual Gay & Lesbian Pride Parade, takes place in East Lakeview in June. Over the past few years, West Lakeview has become the refuge for many people who fled the high prices of Lincoln Park.

Lakeview has a diverse population with many young professionals who enjoy its easy access to Lake Michigan. Lakeview is also home to the famous Chicago Cubs in its Wrigleyville neighborhood. Wrigleyville is also famous with its bars and constant party environment around the stadium. Parties are most exciting during the game days, but it does not stop during the off-season. Lakeview offers variety of entertainment places: sports bars, comedy clubs, live music, blues bars and various restaurants.

Transportation is convenient with the “El” Red, Purple and Brown lines and CTA buses running on every major street. One of the biggest advantages of Lakeview is its proximity to the lakefront activities such as boating or fishing. Cyclers, skaters and joggers are plentiful on the lakefront paths.

Lakeview is a shopping haven with over 600 shops in the Lakeview neighborhood. Independently owned specialty shops add more flavor to the neighborhood. The restaurants offer wide variety in cuisine in Lakeview. If you are looking to raise a family in Lakeview, there are many schools in the area. Please see below for a list of schools in Lakeview.

Another reason of Lakeview’s popularity is derived from its beautiful diverse architecture. It is possible to see a century old building right next to a brand new house. Housing ranges from very affordable to very expensive. It is possible to get less space for your money, but location is hard to beat. High-rises overlook the lake and vintage condominiums and apartments lie just west of the neighborhood. Tree-lined streets are especially beautiful during the spring and summer seasons.
