The loop is downtown and the heart of Chicago. It gets its name from elevated "El" lines that loop the area. It is the main business district of Chicago and the intersection of State and Madison streets are the center of the Loop.
Various important buildings and attractions are located at the Loop such as the City Hall, Daley Center, Thompson Center, Downtown Theatre District, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Harold Washington Library. It is also walking distance to Magnificent Mile, Greek Town, a golf course, two marinas, Grant Park nearby and the city's theaters and museums
The overwhelming majority of the buildings are commercial and business building. The most famous of the buildings in Chicago is the Sears Tower. With 110 floors and 1,450 feet, it is tallest top floor of any building in the world. In the past years, the residential opportunities have grown tremendously as city lovers prefer to live and work in close proximity. The Loop offers a great range of prices, but mostly offers high-rise condominiums. There are many new development projects underway in this area.
