The Village of Palatine was founded in 1855. It was built as a result of the newly built railroad station on the new Chicago & Northwestern Railway. Joel Wood surveyed and laid out the village, making him Palatine's official founder. In 1866, Palatine, IL was finally incorporated as a village. Palatine has had an incredible population boom after Palatine's first suburb-style subdivision called Palanois Park was built and the suburban Chicago prawl reached its city limits after the World War II.

The Village has an outstanding educational program. High schools and the college, and even the public library, have received high national honors.
