Portage Park is a neighborhood located on the Northwest Side of Chicago bounded by Montrose Avenue to the north, Roscoe Street to the south, Cicero Avenue to the east and Narragansett Avenue to the west. Like most neighborhoods on the Northwest side, Portage Park has a vibrant Polish community. It attracts mostly families, who are drawn to the modest bungalows in the area. The neighborhood has recently been experiencing a period of growth, with new bars and restaurants attracting younger urban dwellers who also appreciate the affordable housing Portage Park has to offer.
The Blue Line, Metra, bus lines and the Kennedy Expressway all converge just north of Portage Park at the Jefferson Park transportation hub. The Blue line stop at Montrose is just on Portage Park’s eastern border.
