What began as a neighborhood filled with factories and warehouses has now turned into one of the most popular areas of Chicago. Located west of Michigan Avenue to the Chicago River and North Kinzie to Chicago Avenue, River North is a haven for hotels, convenient transportation and great shopping.
Formally owned by the Kennedy family, The Merchandise Mart is the center of Chicago’s furniture and fashion design industry. It is the world’s largest commercial building. River North now has the largest concentration of art galleries outside of Manhattan. Nightlife and entertainment is famous in River North and there are blocks of trendy clubs. River North contains more trendy clubs than anyone could hit in a month. There are also a few schools in the area, including one of Northwestern University's campuses and the Illinois Institute of Art.
As with any up and coming neighborhood, the prices have risen steadily especially in this neighborhood with its proximity to Michigan Avenue. Prices are climbing in this area and businesses keep moving in to bank on it.
There CTA trains and busses run constantly in the area and finding cabs is not a problem.
