Zip Codes for Skokie, IL: 60076, 60077

When it was incorporated in 1888, Skokie was named as Niles Centre. To erase the confusion with the neighboring village of Niles and because they are both under the Niles township, in 1940, its name changed to Skokie. The village is a growing community with a total population of 63,348. It has one of the more diverse populations in the Northern Chicago suburbs. It celebrates this diversity with the Skokie Festival of Cultures celebrated every May at the Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park.

Skokie occupies 10.2 square miles of land and is bordered by Evanston, Chicago, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, and Wilmette. The transportation to Chicago has been made easy with the Yellow Line CTA train station at Dempster Street. Skokie has, similar to Chicago, a grid like street pattern with major east-west streets every half a mile. Major east-west streets are Old Orchard, Golf, Church, Dempster, Main, Oakton, Howard and Touhy. The major north-south streets are Skokie Boulevard, Crawford, McCormick and Niles Center.
