Winnetka means “Beautiful Land” in a Native American language. The name was found in a book by Sarah Peck wife of the village founder Charles Pack. The village was incorporated in 1869 by Charles Peck and Walter S. Gurnee, President of Chicago & Milwaukee Railroad. This small village is also the home of Donald Rumsfeld and the setting of the television drama, “Sisters”
